The first description of how the Messiah will shepherd is in the strength of Yahweh. Implicitly, part of Micah 5:4 speaks to Jesus' divinity, exclusivity, and oneness with the Father. Jesus shepherds in the strength of God because He is God. The Shepherd-King born in the manger comes down to earth in the strength of God. He does not gain it over a period of time, nor is the Father going to give it to Him later. Because Jesus is God, He has is already. This is crucial in an age where the world says that Jesus is a good person or teacher, but He is not God. The Scripture ardently and clearly refutes such a claim and displays Him as He is, God in the flesh. Today, for Christians, this is of the greatest of assurances and comforts. The Lord Jesus remains at the right hand of God the Father in power and supreme strength. It is amazing that He came to earth in such humble means having such incredible strength.
