Ephesians 4:1 is, most likely, the second most influential verse in terms of the totality of the epistle. Why? Because it sets course for chapter 4 and the two that follow it. The 'therefore' in the beginning of verse 1 transitions from the doctrinal weight of Paul's prayer in chapter 3 to the practical application that takes the stage in the epistle. Paul exhorts the brothers to live a life that is worthy of the salvation that had been applied to the Gentiles. No longer were they cast out from the family of God, and now Paul is calling them to live this new life out. It is an exhortation that is desperately needed in the current age when many Christians live life matter of factly. However, God calls us to a greater standard. His calling is high and secure. We serve a great God who has given us the power to serve Him. This is the Spirit filled exhortation to do so by the Apostle Paul.
