Paul moves from unity to indivduality. He speaks of the varied gifts of God given to His people. Before Paul gets there, He begins with the foundation, and that is the grace of God that is given to every believer. What grace is given? Simply put, the grace that made salvation in Christ possible for a ruined sinner. This grace is given to every believer. On an individual level, the gifts that God gives to His people are of a wide variety. However, they are all useful for the good of the church to the glory of God (1 Peter 4:10). Before moving to the specified gifts in verse 11, Paul says that gifts are given to every believer. Therefore, the singled out gifts of verse 11 do not excuse the believer of saying that he/she does not have any gifts, nor it commanded to use them.
