Paul concludes this section on unity. He has driven his point of the gifts of the evangelists and pastor-teachers to the church and is showing the need for them. The need is because of rampant false doctrine that has been around since Jesus' resurrection (when the guards were told to tell everyone that the disciples came for Jesus' body in the middle of the night). Today, there is no shortage of false doctrine around. It has been popularized by televangelists that are raised up on high pedestals. However, as innocent as they may look, their agenda is self-serving. They teach their doctrine in the most clever of ways. For the immature Christian, this may seem like good things to hear. But for those who are mature, and practice discernment, the error of false teaching is easily noted and is done away with. May it be said of every Bible believing church that spiritual unity and maturity are most obvious traits of those flocks.
