Genesis 3:21

Considering what Jesus does for His people is not far off from what Yahweh God, the Father did for the first sinners, Adam and Eve. Genesis 3:21 is Yahweh God coming to His fallen people's rescue. How so? He covers them in the appropriate garments that were going to do them well in a world that was very different from the garden of Eden. After man tried to cover himself in his sin, Yahweh covers Him with what He needs. That need is an act from God. Only Yahweh could have provided the skins needed. How could Adam and Eve do so when they had never killed anything, they had everything given to them by God when He created it.

In the same way, in Jesus Christ, He has given believers all that we need in Himself. By the shedding of His blood on the cross, which was to come the next day, He offered the needed sacrifice to satisfy God's wrath against sin. The Lord's Supper is a picture of how Jesus was going to give all that the disciples needed. Did they know their greatest need? Not to the fullest extent, but neither did Adam and Eve. Clearly, in both situations, God knew far greater than man and provided far better than man ever could. Thus, when the Lord's Table is observed it is done so with the remembrance that in Jesus believers are satisfied in Him and have all that we need in Him.
