Paul continues his discourse aimed at husbands. Here he gives a summary of verses 25-27 by referring to the husband's role in loving his wife. He does so in an unmistakable way that is specific and pointed. The main takeaway is that a husband is to love his wife as Christ does the church. This is reemphasized because husbands and wives need to be reminded of this. The world that we live in will tell us a multitude of different ways how husbands and wives can live in a joyous way, but none of them match what the Bible has to offer. Thus, husbands are to live, not in an earthly way, but in a Christ honoring way. They do this by nourishing and cherishing their wives after Christ doing so with the church. The question is, husband, does your wife look nourished? If you have children or grandchildren at home, do they see their mom or grandmother look well nourished? Again, the Word of God is essential in putting forth a well-nourished spouse.
