Ephesians 4:11-12

Christ has given the church exactly what she needs. In doing so, Christ has given the early church apostles, prophets, evangelists, and pastor-teachers. The foundation of the church is on the apostles and prophets (Ephesians 2:20). Apostles and prophets must not be discredited, but it must be said that the titles are abused today by those who operate upon there own agenda. These gifts are good gifts and they are all that the church needs to be made complete in Christ and to be built up. The goal for every Christian is to be complete in Christ, or to be mature in Christ, to move from the milk to the solid food. Every pastor-teacher is to play his part in equipping the sheep. That is done by the faithful preaching of the Word and the loving and shepherding care in which he gives. And as a result of the sheep being equipped the church is edified (built up).
