The apostle Paul continues his instruction to the family unit. He moves on to the children. He starts with his instruction to children the same way he did with wives and husbands: with a command. There are two commands for children, one is to obey and the other is to honor. What is of note is that there are no conditions or ways out to not do this. In short, every child within the Christian home must obey there parents. However, if the child stops at the parent in obedience, the main point is missed. Paul is telling the children to obey their parents as they would obey the Lord Jesus Himself. This obedience and honoring is to eternity. Thus, a child can only rightly obey and honor his/her parents is by first doing so unto Jesus. As parents, may we set before our children eyes that are fixed on Christ that they may honor and obey Him, and in God's kindness we can reap the benefits of His work in them.
