Paul continues in his prayer progressively. After praying for the Spirit's strengthening, he prays that Christ would dwell in them. It is not as though Christ has deserted them or left them, but he prays that their hearts would be ready to receive Christ. Remove the cobwebs, do away with sin, and make a clean dwelling for Christ, that is the aim of Paul's prayer. As a result of this, Paul prays, confidentally, that the Ephesians are rooted in love. They are firm and unwavering in it. Why? Because their love is founded on God's love which is so vast and incredible. At the same time, God in His love and grace permits believers, then and today, to not just experience His love, but know it.
