Ephesians 4:23-24

Knowing that the putting the old self aside is not the end all, Paul moves to two striking truths for the Christian. He is to have the spirit of the mind renewed and the new self put on. Both of these speak to the one time act and the continuing act (salvation and sanctification). It it not enough for the mind to be renewed, but for the spirit of the mind. Meaning that the inner core (the decision making place) of the mind is to be renewed and continue to be renewed. Christians have the privilege of putting on the new self. The unbeliever cannot do such a thing. This new self is rooted in perfect joy that is rooted in the very righteousness and holiness of God. So, what is stopping you from putting on the new? Is it the world's goods, self glory, recognition? Instead, rather, let us be the people of God who shine brightly that others may see this glorious truth of Christ coming to earth, dying on a cross, and saving sinners from the wrath of God!
