Ephesians 4:13

Paul could not be any clearer on what the first 16 verses of chapter 4 are about: unity. Unity broad, and, yet concise. Every believer should be striving for unity, both in the church and in doctrine. However, unity is found most specifically in the Lord Jesus Christ. He has lived a perfect life, died on a cross, was buried, rose again, and ascended to the Father in glory. This is, ultimately, what unites every believer. But we have a problem. Our sin remains in these fleshly bodies. Jesus, being the Son of God, completely aware of that prayed to the Father on our behalf that we would be one as He and the Father are one. In so being united, the purpose is to ever strive unto maturity. Every Christian must be striving toward maturity. How does that occur? One way is to daily invest in oneself with the Word of God. It is there that knowledge of Christ is found and sanctification leading to unity may be identified and obtained.
