Ephesians 5:31-33

Paul concludes Ephesians 5 with a summary of where he started in verse 22. He comes back to the role of husbands and wives by way of 2 commands. Before he gets to the two commands, he takes his audience back to the garden of Eden and the institution of Yahweh God that is called marriage. Although Paul was never married, he was educated in the OT which included the institution of marriage. He bases everything he has said regarding husbands and wives on this institution that God made. In short, Paul is saying if you get the Genesis account wrong, then you get the texts in Ephesians wrong. Getting these last 3 verses right also propels the reader into chapter 6 when Paul will speak on the family.
